I did! I did saw a puddy tat!

Hey, just because this blog is called bulb mode doesn't mean all my pictures should be created with long exposures :)

False IR

It's been a while since my last post. Sorry to my followers (yeah both of you) :P

Here's a simulated infrared shot. This was taken during our Makati Photowalk a couple of months ago. I used the redrex blue haze preset in lightroom.

Here's another one of my attempts. I tried setting the exposure right but i just can't seem to figure out how to post process this. I set the white balance to a green patch of grass, moved the camera a bit during white balance setting to blur out the image. Did red-blue channel reversal in photoshop, but still, nada. Tips, anyone?

Still learning

This photo shows why you should buy high-quality filters, or remove them when there are bright points of light in your photo, especially when using bulb mode. I wonder if using a graduated ND, mounted upside-down would have helped dim the house lights a bit. Exposure at 18mm, f11, 682s. Nikon D90 ISO 200 18-105mm AF-S VR. I'll try to remember to open up the aperture next time :P

Glimpse of the Milky Way

I took this shot a few weeks ago on a trip to Bohol. For some reason, it's a little more difficult to take pictures of stars here than in Zambales. The tree is very visible because there was a lamp near it. f/3.5 at 30sec, ISO 1000, long-exp NR.

Faint stars

I like this shot, even though i forgot to open up the aperture. The stars would have been brighter at f3.5. Shot at f/10, 30sec, ISO1600. The lamp looks like it's from the 1920s, except for the CFL installed inside.

CDR-King WT-3540 tripod review

The model I'm going to discuss here is the biggest silver one with the pan head CDR King WT-3540. I'll write about the black one with the ballhead (CDRKing BW-23 tripod) next time.

Tripod handle, center column adjustment, label

I have an upcoming trip to an interesting place with snowy mountain ranges so recently, I've been looking for a tripod that will help me take better pictures when travelling. Here are my two option groups with pros and cons:

Galaxies on earth

The way the light from the streetlamps was scattered in this shot is interesting. I didn't use a special filter. This was shot from behind a car windshield. Dirt on the wiper blades causes very small scratches on the glass, scattering light like this. Kinda looks like galaxies with huge discs viewed from the side.

Let's get things started!

Here's my first attempt at star trails. Exposure was adjusted in lightroom. Exposure time is about 11mins at f/3.5, ISO400. The bright squiggly line in the middle was made by someone walking past my field of view with a flashlight. I wasn't patient enough to take another long exposure, however, I think this one turned out quite well.

Welcome

Welcome! This is mainly a photography blog. People have been saying that taking pictures everyday will greatly improve your skills in photography. I'll post the results here and let you guys judge. I'll also post articles on tech stuff and reviews of photography equipment from time to time.

Enjoy!!
